Making
Aliyah to Israel is very expensive as are the costs of both living there and
paying for the exorbitant taxes. Many Diaspora Jews do not speak Hebrew
fluently, a severe impediment to making a living there. Additionally, I just
heard of bill in the US Congress that would eliminate dual citizenship and the
continuation of any earned benefits being paid out ( social security,
government and military pensions) for them.
Though many Jews would love to live there, we are in the midst of an Israeli
government that is still capitulating to terrorists. Are Jews to simply
lobotomize themselves in the face of known realities? The Trump peace plan is
already a disaster with Hamas violating the ceasefire in continuation of their
goals, Trump went to the UN in pursuit of a Palestinian state by returning
Israel to the 1948 borders which would make Israel unable to effectively defend
itself against the scale of predation from Arab neighbors with a history of
attacking the Jewish state.
אני מבין אותך, גם אנחנו היינו עולים חדשים. המחסום של השפה
קשה מאד, במיוחד עבור אנשים מבוגרים. הילדים והצעירים עוברים אותו ללא שום קושי.
אבל, את מדברת אנגלית, וזה יתרון גדול מאד, את יכולה לתקשר עם כול אחד בישראל
באנגלית. החוק שאת מדברת עליו נראה לי כמו דחליל, לא רק יהודים בישראל מחזיקים
באזרחות כפולה. לעניות דעתי, הדברים שאת כותבת אותם על ממשלת ישראל, אני, בישראל,
לא רואה אותם. אפילו הרושם שלי הפוך מזה, הממשלה לא נכנעת לפני המחבלים, תוכנית
טרמפ מצוינת, הלוואי שיאשמו אותה, אין
חזרה לגבולות 1948, אלא ההפך הוא הנכון.
לעניות דעתי המשוואה היא: התבוללות בארה"ב או קשי עליה
והסתגלות בישראל. אם יש לך ילדים, נכדים, בואו לישראל, זה המקום הטוב והטבעי שלכם!

I
understand you; we were also Olim Hadashim. The language barrier is very
difficult, especially for older people. Children and young people overcome it
without any difficulty. But you speak English, and that is a very big
advantage; you can communicate with almost everyone in Israel in English.
The
law you're talking about seems like a scarecrow to me; it's not only Jews in
Israel who hold dual citizenship.
In
my humble opinion, the things you write about the Israeli government—I, living
here in Israel, do not see them. In fact, my impression is the opposite: the
government is not surrendering to terrorists, the Trump plan is excellent, and
I hope it gets adopted. There is no going back to the 1948 borders; rather, the
opposite is true.
In
my humble opinion, the equation is this: assimilation in the U.S. or the
difficulties of Aliyah and absorption in Israel. If you have children and
grandchildren, come to Israel. This is your best and most natural place!
